"We meet again, Mr. Powers"

drevil_million_dollars.jpgIt's going to take something quite radical to get the Austin Powers franchise back off the ground again. The crazy creative decisions that were made in the third installment (that problem again) like making Dr. Evil and Austin Powers brothers and the fact the movie sucked worse than a Rob Cohen double-bill may be too much for the series to recover from. As Josh points out at Cinema Blend, it's difficult to see where the franchise and the character of Powers can go? Well, Mike Myers whilst out promoting Shrek the Third revealed that he is one step ahead of us. He is planning an Austin Powers 4 and it will be from a different point of view...
€œThere is a fully conceived idea for a fourth and I can just say that it€™s from Dr Evil€™s point of view, so if you balanced how much of it was Austin with Dr Evil, it€™s more Dr Evil than Austin.€ €œThere's one that we had an idea about and the only thing I will say is that it's entirely from Dr. Evil's point of view€ It would be the first of his trilogy.
The quotes come from Moviehole and Rotten Tomatoes. Yeah sure, a movie about Dr. Evil could work. I think he is the main reason why I watched the original movie about once a week on my crappy VHS tape back in 1998. I thought the character was just pure genius and although I'm less of a fan with what they did with him in Austin Powers: Goldmember, if they take the character back to his roots of the original (God, I can't believe I just said that about frikkin Dr. Evil) then I would really support this film. However Myers is just like Mel Gibson and Quentin Tarantino. You should not take his word as gospel. We know he has The Love Guru on the horizon, he may just be playing with us.
