With comedy film giants Steve Carrell & Jim Carrey set as the two leads for the upcoming magician comedy Burt Wonderstone, a shortlist of several beautiful women has been pulled out of the hat by New Line for the female lead. Deadline say Olivia Wilde, Jessica Biel, Michelle Monaghan, Judy Greer and Sarah Silverman are vying for the love interest part and in terms of comedy, all have their own chops in this department. Wilde recently appeared in The Change-Up and is Hollywood's current favourite actress (she routinely appears on these lists). Biel provided memorable eye-candy in I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, but Monaghan, despite being immensely likeable, was totally forgettable in The Heartbreak Kid (though to be fair it was an awful movie). Greer is always great in this genre and brings so much character to her performances, whilst it's hard to know where Sarah Silverman the real life person starts and her on screen persona ends. If I were casting I would pick Greer and a big plus for her is that Carell has spearheaded the project from the beginning and she is the kind of wholesome actress that he usually stars opposite, but you know they are gonna make a big play for Wilde or Biel. Written by Horrible Bosses scribes John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, the light-hearted comedy is based around a fading Las Vegas magician who accidentally kills his partner and is consistently outdone by a younger, hipper illusionist, forcing him to rediscover his enthusiasm for magic. Carell has long been attached as Wonderstone, the fading Las Vegas magician€ but with both actors 49 years old, it€™s hard to imagine Carrey as the younger illusionist so they are probably now the same age. Interestingly the a recent re-write has come from Juno and Up in the Air€™s director Jason Reitman so expect the movie to have some significant gravitas as that€™s the kind of projects that appeal to Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin, Dan in Real Life, Crazy Stupid Love) and this is one he has stuck with despite a few years of stalling. Originally he was instrumental in attaching his frequent The Office director Charles McDougall to it, but more recently it€™s 30 Rock helmer Don Scardino who will direct. With Carrey€™s clean slate, expect Burt Wonderstone to film early next year when Carell wraps up his role in Great Hope Springs with Meryl Streep.
