Wonder Woman Vs The Dark Knight: Which Is Better?

Did DC finally one-up itself?

Wonder Woman has been rightly earnings heaps of praise from critics and fans alike, most of whom deem it the best DC movie since 2008's ground-breaking Batman classic The Dark Knight, and some have even gone as far as to proclaim it superior to Christopher Nolan's riveting crime epic.

It's time to separate the hyperbole from the truth, to settle the argument once and forever, though, by breaking both movies down to their core components, such as direction, plot, performances, action sequences and so on, and figure out which one really comes out on top.

Can Patty Jenkins live up to Christopher Nolan's veteran work behind the camera? How does Ares stack up against The Joker? And which movie will best stand the test of time?

Moreover, are all those Dark Knight-dethroning claims just overzealous chatter from understandably excited Wonder Woman fans, or is the movie really that damn good?

By the time he tackled The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan had well and truly proven himself as a reliable Hollywood filmmaker, and his second Batman movie was simply his next step into bigger-budget, larger-scale fare.

Though there are some awkward shot selections to accommodate the PG-13 rating and a few occasionally creaky lines of dialogue that he allows to slip through ("Things are worse than ever!"), for the most part it's a gorgeously-mounted film that's riveting in both action and drama.

Patty Jenkins' work on Wonder Woman, meanwhile, is her first film project since 2003's Monster, and her first-ever blockbuster effort. Though she does a generally solid job with the material, she does indulge in far too much slow-motion during action beats, to the point that it sometimes feels like she's attempting to ape Zack Snyder's divisive style.

Winner: The Dark Knight. Jenkins did just fine, but Nolan easily runs away with this one.
