10 Dreaded Enemies That Every Gamer Avoids

9. Kaernk - Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Resident Evil Nemesis
Frictional Games

Kaernk is an exercise in tension. Walking through Amnesia is scary enough, but Kaernk is something special. Instead of being hunted by the monster, you have to walk through it. You are forced to balance precariously above the water, trying desperately to not fall in and get devoured.

The constant sloshing of water is a constant reminder that the monster is there. Despite it being invisible, it is dreadful. Your first encounter with the monster renders every slight body of water in the game an incredibly stressful experience.

Turning the corner and seeing a small puddle is enough to make you question whether or not to continue. Sure, being hunted by slack-jawed, squint-eyed gatherers is scary, but having to deal with Kaernk is like forcing yourself to have a heart-attack.
