10 Gaming Plot Twists That Blew Our Minds

8. The Final Boss Is Your Future Self - InFamous

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=VQnyxRa9vIg InFamous is one of the most underrated games in recent years, telling a pleasantly post-modern comic-book tale about a young man getting to grips with his new super-powers, complete with an excellent hand-drawn style. The villain of the game, Kessler, is an ultra-powerful being who eventually ends up killing your girlfriend, the major emotional turning point of the game, but that is far from the last sleight of hand the game has to reveal. During the final battle with Kessler, you learn that, in fact, he is a future version of you, and travelled back in time in order to bestow you with powers earlier than you would otherwise receive them, meaning that you'll become more powerful than Kessler eventually. So why did your future self do this? It's in order to ensure that you're powerful enough to defeat The Beast, a villain who "Kessler" had been unable to vanquish with his present powers. This not only ends the game on a thought-provoking, noodle-baking note, but also sets the game up superbly for the sequel, in which you seek out The Beast once and for all.
