10 Gaming Plot Twists That Blew Our Minds

7. "Would You Kindly..." - Bioshock

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=cLbgCry4KRI Bioshock is another game that delivers a fiendish twist which entirely eschews everything you've been doing throughout the game, and even makes an intelligently post-modern comment on the nature of video games, how we have to blindly follow the commands of the game, and how storytellers can manipulate this to chilling ends. From the start of the game, you're aided by a figure called Atlas, who uses the phrase "Would you kindly?" throughout the game while instructing you what to do, a phrase that has far wider implications than you're aware of until the end of the game. It turns out that the utterance of "Would you kindly?" to compel us to do things has actually been Atlas brain-washing the protagonist to do his evil bidding, as he actually turns out to be the game's antagonist. This shocking epiphany is brilliantly implemented into the story, and makes us question the very nature of gaming, where we're asked to perform actions and generally don't stop to question them no matter how heinous they seem.
