10 Gaming Sequels We Want To See in Next Generation

With the arrival of the Nintendo Wii U only weeks away, the next gen battle is well and truly about to begin. While Microsoft and Sony haven't officially announced their next consoles, it's a guaranteed fact that they are busy working on them. There is nothing like a new console. New tech, more powerful hardware, better graphics and innovative ways to play are always a must for gamers when upgrading to what is usually an expensive investment. But for all the advances in resolution, connectivity and engines, consoles still depend on games the most and with new consoles, come new possibilities. The Big Three will indeed want new IP's exclusive to their consoles and while upcoming titles such as The Last Of Us and Watch Dogs look amazing, some current franchises have shown enough potential to deserve the next gen treatment. Here are ten sequels we want to see next generation.

10. Resident Evil

Resident Evil has lost its way. What was once a masterful experience of survival horror which set the benchmark for the genre, has been replaced by a more action orientated Call of Duty clone. Gone are the days of bullet management, puzzle solving and drug abuse. The original Resi, for its time, was an incredible achievement. The story was great, the backdrop was genuinely scary and the characters were instant stars (pun intended). Resident Evil 2 and Nemesis built upon the foundation but when Code of Veronica and Resident Evil Zero didn't prove as popular, the series nose-dived. Resident Evil 4 resurrected the franchise and was wildly successful. The camera was fixed, the action was increased and Leon was back kicking ass. It was the best of both worlds and while some fans were upset with the direction Capcom had taken, most agreed it still played like classic Resident Evil. Many fans just wanted a few more scares and original zombies to go along with the new style. But Capcom had other ideas. They took the concept of 'action survival', injected Chris Redfield with his own unique S-Virus, filled you to the gills with guns and tried to compete with Michael Bay for the special 'most pointless set pieces' award. Resident Evil 5 was a good action game but it was not Resident Evil. It completely discarded horror and suspense, instead focusing on shooting big guns. Unfortunately, it seems that Resident Evil 6, while showing signs of going back to it's roots, still fails in key areas for what fans want from the series. Resident Evil on the next gen consoles paves the way for a franchise reboot. Capcom needs to go darker, way darker. The possibilities are endless but how about, just for a change, actually needing to survive? Imagine an open world city backdrop which is overrun with zombies. The game opens with a new character, alone and afraid in a city such as New York or London. You have no instructions, no weapons, no items or HUD. You are set no objective other than to escape the city. As the story progresses, old favourites can be introduced. You shouldn't get gun until 5-1o hours in. There is no electricity or available food. Oh ya, the Nemesis is back too and stalks your every move. Dark Souls proved that the market is there for hardcore games. Resident Evil need to look to the past when building its future. If not, it will just die a slow horrible death competing with Call of Duty.
