10 Memories All Original PlayStation Owners Share

From weird black discs to butler abuse, the PlayStation had everything.

As previously discussed, the first PlayStation is now 20-years-old. Just let that sink in for a second. Tekken and Twisted Metal could go for a drink in a pub if they were people. For those that grew up with Sony's little grey box, that is both amazing and downright terrifying. The impact that the console had on the industry as a whole cannot be understated. It raised the bar for production values in games; making full-motion video (FMV), CD-quality music and voice acting standard for every other disc-based console that followed it. Not only that, but it pooped out amazing games like its life depended on it. They were so good in fact, that many of the franchises that made their debut on the PS1 (Metal Gear Solid, Tekken, Gran Turismo) are still going strong today. The strength of the system's library was all its diversity - it was home to everything from the massively popular Tomb Raider series and platformers like Crash Bandicoot, to the just-plain-weird games like PaRappa The Rapper that weren't available anywhere else. The PS1 didn't just have a massive impact on the industry - it had a huge influence on the lives of anyone that owned one during their childhood or adolescence. It was the best surrogate parent that anyone could ask for.

When I'm not playing games, I'm probably either writing about them somewhere or singing stupid songs inspired by them. Or eating pizza.
