From helmets to swords, which of these equipments will help your creatures stand above the rest?

It's easy enough to say what the best artifacts in Magic the Gathering are, but this list looks at a very specific type of artifact - equipments. These cards give your creatures an extra buff which will stay there until it's removed, more focused on planning and tactical play than instants or sorceries which buff your creature for a single turn so you can pump out the damage. That isn't, however, to say that some of these equipments can't do that - they often give your creatures increased stats after all.

This list will focus on cards as a whole rather than powerful individual abilities, so the cards with the most powerful effects might have been subbed for those which do a little but a lot.

Equipments might be in scarce numbers within every set, but over the 27 years that MTG has been going, their numbers have accumulated and so there are plenty to choose from if you want to give your deck that extra kick. So, clamp your skull, strap on your steel, pick up a sword and prepare yourself as we delve in to see the best equipments that Magic has to offer.

10. Cranial Plating

This card massively favours artifact decks, which, especially in the last handful of years in MTG, have fortunately become more viable. This equipment is cheap both to cast and to equip, giving a creature of yours an instant spike in power.

The great thing about this card is that you don’t even need to be running an all-artifact deck to gain some value from this card. Especially in EDH, most decks have at least a handful of artifacts for mana generation at the bare minimum – so this card will likely give a creature +2 or +3 power at the worst of times which isn’t bad for a 2-cost card which costs 1 to equip.

However, put it alongside an aforementioned artifact deck and you’ve suddenly got a power spike in the double figures. It also triggers from itself as it’s an artifact in its own right, meaning you’ll never get nothing for it. Overall, this card is great in both the early and the late game and that’s why it just makes this list.
