10 Ridiculous Arguments Against The Biggest Games Of 2013

8. Battlefield 4 Has Terrible Single Player

Battlefield 3 remains the best online FPS I have ever played, yet many were critical of the meager single player mode, which was depressingly short and almost completely lacking in characterisation and memorable set-pieces. I can't remember a single thing about it. As such, when Battlefield 4's release arrived, most of us expected another so-so single player mode, despite DICE claiming that they had taken far greater consideration of it this time around. I will agree that Battlefield 4's solo offering is not spectacular, but it is far from terrible. The addition of Michael K. Williams (Omar from The Wire) lends proceedings a little more gravitas, though I will agree that it is far too short. Still, that's not even the main point here, the point is that Battlefield 4 isn't really about the single player at all, it's a minor diversion at best, one you're supposed to get to when you finally get exhausted from pumping hours into the superb online multiplayer mode. Does that excuse the merely OK single player? Not really, and I'm unsure as to why games like Call of Duty and Battlefield even bother with single player modes, because nobody pays £50 for them. The argument has some basis, in that the single player could be a lot better, but to rally against the game because of this is to miss the point. DICE have clearly pumped their best efforts into the online mode, which is superbly addictive and easily the best online shooter I've played all year.
