10 Secret Game Over Screens That Were Absolute Genius

6. Sonic CD - Sonic Chooses Death Over Boredom

Everybody knows that Sonic gets impatient - when you can run around at the speed of sound, you're going to want things to move along quickly. That foot-tapping, arms-folded pose is one of Sonic's most famous - and he takes it to a whole new level in Sonic CD.

In most games, the pause button acts as a quick respite to go to the bathroom, grab a drink, or something equally trivial. However, in Sonic CD, pausing is absolutely vital. If you don't pause, and you leave Sonic alone with his thoughts for three minutes - well, he just can't handle being that still for that long.

After the time limit has expired, the blue hedgehog will wag his finger at you in annoyance, and then launch himself offscreen to his death.

That's right - Sonic will commit suicide if he's stood in the same place for longer than three minutes. But the pain doesn't stop there, oh no. Instead of going back to your last checkpoint and losing a life, like you'd expect, this game over literally ends the game. It sends you right back to level 1 - so sucks to be you if you were anywhere near the end.

Most games encourage you to take a break. Sonic CD punishes you for it.
