So many games are all about killing. Whether it's aliens, zombies, nazis, or something else altogether, countless titles put guns, swords and magic spells in our hands, before tasking us with wiping out as many enemies as possible.

Combat is a key part of many gaming experiences, and it can be a lot of fun, but do we always need to be so violent? Believe it or not, it can actually be a ton of fun to play through certain games without killing anyone or anything.

Many gamers like setting their own challenges and completing their favourite titles in new and original ways, and that's how the idea of the 'Pacifist Run' was born. Of course, it's not possible to get through every game without killing enemies, but there are some developers who took the time and gave players the tools they needed to make it from the first to last level without shedding any blood.

Combat is still a major part of many of the titles on this list, but, whether it be by sneaking, talking, fleeing, or using some other trick or mechanic, it's wholly possible to finish them all without killing any enemies.

Pacifist runs are possible in a few games throughout the Ultima series of classic role-playing games. Ultima IV even encourages this, awarding players "Compassion Points" for sparing the lives of their enemies.

The sixth entry in the franchise, however, is the best example of an Ultima game letting you finish the entire main quest and navigate the fantasy land of Britannia without killing anyone.

Random monster encounters are actually quite rare in Ultima VI, so it's not too much of a hassle to make your way through the story while avoiding combat. Some quest sections do involve the player having to complete objectives in monster-filled areas, but it's possible to use invisibility accessories and potions to steer clear of fights.

Players can also make use of the Help spell to instantly teleport out of dangerous situations once objectives have been completed, and the Pickpocket ability to steal items and disarm certain enemies without killing them.
