There’s nothing like the feeling of 100%’ing a video game, of looking back over your list of achievements/trophies and knowing beyond a doubt that you consumed everything the game had to give, and you did it with style. And the prestige that can come from attaining that elusive 100% can sometimes, depending on the game of course, raise players to Rock Star status, in certain circles.
For this reason, people have been known to dedicate weeks, months, even years in some cases, to chasing that beautiful round figure – that 100%. It’s not only for bragging rights of course, completing a project, regardless of what it is, to know that you achieved something that others haven’t, is one of the greatest ways to experience deep satisfaction.
But sometimes, it’s not exactly as easy as simply making the commitment and seeing it through. More and more, games are being released that are designed to aggressively retain players after they complete the main campaign; to keep them playing well into the months, so that the publisher is able to keep wringing out cash from the title.
Sometimes this works well, but every so often this concept shoots itself in the foot. Sometimes, the 100% is just too ridiculously difficult and as a result, you’ll probably never even bother attempting to attain it. Here are just 10 of those video games that you’ll most likely never 100%.

Awesome…you just made the bucket list for every hardcore gamer.
The Final Fantasy XI page has a couple of errors:
1. The game was on PS2 and not PS3 (therefore no trophies).
2. The last sentence says “FFIX” (9) instead of “FFXI” (11).
Noted and updated. Thanks for the assist ;)
And you can go to lvl 90 or 100 now yes?
Indeed a difficult list, I have done GTA IV though…
Well played man. One respect, from me to you ;)
I think the author has confused platinum with 100% in the case of GTA IV. I’ve done the 100% for GTA IV (which gives you the “Key to the City” achievement btw), and it wasn’t that tough. I’ll never get the platinum though.
Platinum only applies to Playstation owners. In any case, the topic starter meant attaining all achievements/trophies for the game.
I think GTA 5/Forza should be on the list, GTA because one trophy is getting a gold trophy in every race and some of the special races are ridiculous and Forza because if you were to try attaining all the vehicles and master each car the Playstation 5 and XBox 2600 will be released.
I think you mean GT 5, GTA 5 isn’t out yet :P
Resident evil 5 one of the dlc desperate escape has a trophy called Run the guantlet. Ive heard only very few actually succeed…i made it to the final area but gave up when my online partner disconnected in frustration :)
I’ll never make it to the end of the list.
Where are you getting your information on FFXI? Did you warp back to 2008? The level cap is now 99, and there are 20 jobs, with two more on the way in next year’s expansion pack. Leveling has been made easier, and no longer takes months of playtime. You can actually level a job from 30-99 in 10 hours in optimal conditions. Having maxed jobs is really not an indication of having 100% complete because anyone can do it with relative ease. I would associate finishing everything with having all quests/missions done,(basically impossible) having maxed out merits for every category, having all crafts maxed, and having every job geared with the best available equipment. But since it’s an MMORPG, Square Enix can just add new stuff, and you are no longer “100%”.
TF2?
Well, there was one guy in WoW who managed to get 100% of the achievements before the MoP patch, and many others who have at least 2 of each class at 85. One for Horde, and one for Alliance.
The Orange Box…I mean come on now. How obvious was this one? Also, not impossible but worth noting Dragon Age Orgins.
P.S. Avatar is a hard one as well….jk
Star Ocean 4 the last hope. Purely for the battle trophy achievement. That will take years to do!!
Gran Turismo 5
-To get from level 35 to level 40 (the highest level – to unlock the 24hr nurburgring), you have to do the 24hr Le Mans coming 1st 7 times! This is non-stop 24hr races on the same track to eventually unlock – the 24hr race (24hr Nurburgring)
Where’s War of the Worlds?! No one has actually managed to get the “I Am Arthur Clark” achievement yet!
really? no elder scrolls 5: skyrim? wowwww thats crazy, it only has 150+ hours of gameplay, not including the massive amount of side missions…thennnn you have dlc, if you have a f**kin xbox
Where are the elder scrolls games? or the Fallout series?
Where’s skyrim?
can’t take this list serious without EVE
endwar, there is a trophy where you have to do something in a special event which doesnt happen any more
what about little big planet 2 and those secret pins that you could only ulock if you worked in MM
I wish you wouldn’t have added any mmo’s to the list and just stuck to games that have a definitive trophy/achievement system cause they can just get expansions
Elder scrolls and Fallout are easy to 100%. Try Demon’s souls for a challenge!
I never truly had that much trouble with Demon’s Souls. The only true problem was grinding certain enemies, some of which one appear once a playthrough, to try and get lucky enough to get the best materials needed for some of the best weapon achievements / trophies. In fact, a couple of these are what hold me back from the platinum as I just don’t have the time to sink into it :/ The actual game wasn’t overly difficult, I had more trouble with Dark Souls which was very tough! Although I have got the platinum trophy for Dark Souls.
try white knight : craft every item, sound easy. you’ll need over 100 “aged crystal dragon skull+” which has a 0.0000000001% drop rate on a lvl 50 online mission that taks an hour or more to beat.
I am disappointed to see Just Cause 2 isn’t on the list.
