9. Gryzor

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=5stKSYNk6Z8 Gryzor is the name given to Contra in Europe and Oceania, and comes from a period in which ports to various platforms were overseen by different teams of people who basically didn't really communicate with each other all that well. This meant that each team could essentially impart their own personality onto a project, as occurred with Gryzor, resulting in a bizarre, and somewhat infuriating ending. If you can manage to make it to the end of "Gryzor" by destroying an alien's giant heart - which, for anyone who has played Contra knows, is a freaking tall order - you'll get the typical ending sequence, accompanied by something so freaky and tailor-made to infuriate its audience that the only reasonable response is uproariously laughter. A screen displays declaring, "Congratulations...You have saved the Earth from the evil alien threat. Unfortunately...Destroying the heart activates a self-destruct mechanism which blows up the planet. How sad." What's more, we then get an - admittedly terrible - animation of Earth exploding into a giant mist. What's so strange is the vaguely sarcastic tone with which we're informed of Earth's destruction, as though the aliens sent the message themselves.
