11 Hugely-Anticipated Video Games You Won't Believe Got Cancelled

For all the games that are still to be released later this year; your Far Cry 4s, Destinys and WWE 2K15s of the world to name but three (as everything else shifts into 2015) it brings to light just how quickly the gears and goalposts within the industry can change. One minute we've got a yearly schedule packed out with everything from Halo 5 to Arkham Knight, and the next it's been sliced down into just a third of what was available.

And it's all well and good looking at what's coming in the new year, but upon reflection how many titles have you previously been looking forward to, only to then follow up on and discover they've been cancelled? As we near the end of a string of press conferences over the last few months, it's all too easy to forget how many games are packed into those lightning-fast showreels for each company's future lineup.

Rather like the world of TV and film where initial concepts might get a glimpse of existence before any number of reasons brings the guillotine down, chances are there's a random trailer or developer interview you committed to memory some time back only for it to never materialise.

In 2014 the gaming industry is in a really strange place - especially when we didn't even realise we were doused in kerosine until someone threw a match in - as for the most part the biggest developers are sticking to well-worn formulas. Although they deliver on ticking boxes for the masses, for every fairly satisfied hundred player there's another 50 groaning that it's 'more of the same'.

For the most part these unfinished projects were a dead cert in terms of their fanbase or wider appeal, but for one reason or another any number of publishers or financial overseers cooked the books and sadly cut them off at the knees before they'd even begun to walk.
