A year has come and gone, and Sony's PlayStation 4 has had an undeniably spectacular first 12 months, arriving amid sky-high expectations, and for the most part living up to them (at least as far as the hardware is concerned). It's been a fascinating year to be a gamer regardless of which platform you own, but the PS4 has had an especially colourful time since launch, enjoying the good, enduring the bad and trying to flee from the ugly side of the video game industry. Financial glory, an interesting inversion of the typical next-gen model, one hilariously near-sighted business decision, and a host of games that both exceeded expectations and fell far short of them. This is the first year of the PS4 in a nutshell, largely a series of innovative and interesting highs, sure, but also unquestionably saddled with a few embarrassing and less-than-stellar lows as well.
