Pre-order figures gave a clear indication of the PS4's insane level of demand prior to release, which of course resulted in Christmas-time supply shortages, as the console stormed to an impressive 4.2 million units sold by the end of 2013, considerably out-pacing Microsoft's 3 million Xbox Ones. As of November 22nd of this year, the PS4 sits at a huge 15.1 million units sold, close to double that of the Xbox One's 8.1 million, and almost exactly double that of Nintendo's Wii U which, remember, had a year-long lead on the PS4. At present, the PS4 holds 49.1% of the eighth generation console market share, and is showing no signs of slowing down. After Sony made so many mistakes with their PS3, which caused them to trail in third place for much of the previous generation, they came out all guns blazing with the PS4, and their dedication to releasing a hardcore games console rather than a multi-purpose media center was rewarded handsomely.
