13 Most Disappointing Video Games Of 2014

The most anticipated video games that flopped the hardest in 2014.

There have been many great games released in 2014, such as Child of Light, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Alien: Isolation, The Evil Within, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Dragon Age: Inquisition. However, this year also seen a disproportionate number of high-profile, AAA titles flop, leading gamers the world over to wonder: what is wrong with video game developers at the moment? Even ignoring the fact that a sizeable portion of this list consists of games developed by Ubisoft, it's clear that developers on the whole are becoming a lot more complacent about the quality (or lack thereof) of the product they can peddle out to consumers on day one. If something's not right, why risk sales by changing the release date when a day one patch can just fix everything, right? But what if It doesn't fix everything? And what if contemporary gaming's overt reliance on online connectivity creates more problems than it solves? The absurd number of near-broken games released this year suggests an uncertain future for the industry, for while gaming certainly isn't going anywhere, the sheer amount of shoddy products released this year should hopefully incite a consumer revolution, a trend to avoid day one purchases in favour of waiting for critical consensus to form. Whatever the future holds, 2014 has, for better and for worse, been a year for the ages for gaming, and here are 13 hugely hyped games that fell pretty far short of that excitement.
