13 More Horror Themed Video Games To Play On Halloween

Fatal We previously released an article detailing thirteen video games that were perfect to play on Halloween. In the spirit of doing something different we deterred from any games that were thematically horror-related or focused on plots involving definite "paranormal activity." However, with Halloween less than two weeks away we can't help but think of those precious gems we left out. So dim the lights and cuddle up real close as we're about to embrace our darker side. Some games on the list may be quite obvious while others may have been off your radar. Each is scary in its own way and is certainly worth checking out especially around the time of year when ghosts and ghouls are running rampant. Keep reading to begin, and if you haven't seen the previous article click here to check it out.

13. Luigi's Mansion

While Luigi's Mansion was briefly mentioned on our last list it was ultimately left out for focusing on a general theme of horror. In fact, while many of the Super Mario Bros. franchise features spooky environments and characters that can enhance the Halloween experience Luigi's Mansion actually manages to be scary if you're playing all alone in the dark. Not that this writer was ever scared... Okay, come on, I was ten when I first played it!

Many players had a major bitch fit when the game was first released in 2001 due to the GameCube lacking a main Mario adventure. Due to this the game has a bad rep but those fanboys are way out of league. This game is damn fun, damn spooky, and damn better than most games released for the Nintendo GameCube. You take control of Luigi who has just won a spooky mansion from a contest he never entered. Totally legit! Unfortunately for him he finds himself smack-dab in the middle of a ghostly conspiracy with King Boo at the helm.

Luigi has to search the dark mansion on a stormy night while encountering a variety of ghoulish ghosts and must capture them in order to progress. The game can be completed within a short amount of time but has a vast amount of replay value. It's no wonder the game has such a strong following. Many fans waited painstakingly for a sequel and alas, our wish was granted earlier this year. What better way to celebrate Halloween than a double dose of Luigi's Mansion and it's 3DS sequel Dark Moon?

Video games are supposed to be fun and entertaining and Luigi's Mansion delivers on both fronts. It's a classic and playing it around Halloween only enhances the amazing time you'll have.
