The games industry is a fascinating, bizarre and often infuriating beast, where consumers constantly find themselves second-guessing the intents of publishers and their shady practices.

2018 may have served up a ton of fantastic games so far, but the year has also been rife with facepalm-inducing stories of companies pulling anti-consumer, money-grubbing business moves in the hope of exploiting their player-bases as much as possible.

These 13 news stories, by far the most infuriating, disappointing and baffling from the first six months of 2018, paint an industry that's pretty damn clueless at best, and treats the average gamer with thinly-veiled contempt at worst.

While some of these embarrassments are more harmless than others, they're all thoroughly misguided choices that clearly should've given someone involved a moment for pause.

Though it's still possible for some of these issues to be resolved, for others it's sadly far too late, and gamers will have to either put up with it or register their disapproval with their wallets...
