Remember how I said we can at least trust the pedigree of Naughty Dog as a studio? The Last of Us 2 will be the ultimate test of that.

As yet, they've not faltered, never released a single dud in over 25 years, The Last of Us remaining one of the greatest video games of all time. That said, it left such an impact because of an intentionally interpretational ending, and now we're actually answering a question that never needed more attention in the first place.

HOWEVER, Naughty Dog's dream duo of writers, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, have both tweeted "Trust us", proceeding to show a trailer for TLoU that ostensibly manifests Joel's lie to Ellie as the main motivation of the entire game. Now, as Joel fibbed about how the Fireflies couldn't synthesise a cure, Ellie is on the warpath, appears to have lost all hope in regards to trusting her fellow man, and Joel himself will only become more aware that all this is motivated by falsehood.

No doubt there'll be an arms race geared towards pilfering Ellie as the only human who can survive being bitten, so expect another immensely layered narrative of sacrifice, duty and incredibly moving emotional moments.
