2. Red Dead Redemption 2

The first of two, "PLEASE get this right' sequels, Red Dead Redemption is the sequel everybody wanted, but not like this. John Marston's story is literally dead and buried - we saw as much in the original game. For Rockstar to 'resurrect' the character's visage in prequel form put many on the back foot - the only recompense being that the team itself will no doubt knock it out the park when it comes to gameplay.

This is alongside the fact that Red Dead tends to be regarded as one of the best games of all time; a brilliant mix of a pitch-perfect, philosophically-tinged script combined with exemplary gunplay, an amazing sense of place and an overall level of polish that lets you get completely lost in the time period.

Regardless, it's going to be very interesting to discover what John Marston and Dutch's Gang were like before the events of RDR, though in the process it could totally shake up a character that was otherwise pegged as "Bad guy with a heart of gold".

Time will tell.
