Even the most hardcore Nintendo fans will struggle to deny that the Wii U hasn't exactly been off to the strongest start: despite being released almost two years ago (a year ahead of its two rivals), the platform has struggled to gain a foothold in the console war, only barely keeping ahead of the Xbox One sales-wise, and being totally obliterated by the PS4. Though the Wii U has seen the release of a few enticing titles over the last few months (OK, Mario Kart 8), it's a console that simply doesn't boast a gaming library strong enough to sell itself to most players, short of the most devoted Nintendo fans. The future, however, is much more promising, with a number of classic Nintendo franchises getting the next-gen treatment, and a year from now, there's a good chance the Wii U will have built up a sizable library to truly make it worth sinking some money on.
