20 Problems Only FIFA Players Will Understand

Whatever happened to the "It's in the game" guy anyway?

If you'd have told us back in 2007 that Fifa would one day be the biggest sports series in the world, we'd probably have laughed in your face (as well as wondering where you got your time machine from). Pro Evolution Soccer was considered the grand-daddy of football games and the Fifa series was remarkably stale. Amazingly, in 2014, the complete reverse is true; Pro Evo stagnates on a yearly basis while EA's premier series goes from strength to strength. One major reason for EA's new found success with the series is Ultimate Team; originally released as an add-on in Fifa 09, Ultimate Team allows players to build a fantasy-football style team using collectable cards. On paper, it doesn't make a whole load of sense but the game-mode is now considered by many to be the definitive Fifa mode, replacing Head-To-Head and Career Mode. Combining Fifa's fast-paced gameplay with the 'collect-em-all' nature of collectable card games was a stroke of genius on EA's part; it's made them a ton of money (thanks to in-game card packs) and it's cemented Fifa's legacy as one of the most entertaining series in gaming currently. So why do Fifa fans rush to the internet to vent their anger on a frequent basis? If you look across the web and get a general opinion of Fifa 14, you'll find it to be an incredibly divisive game. Some people hate it and yearn for the gameplay of earlier titles; some love it and hope to prevent EA from making radical changes in Fifa 15. One glance through EA's official forums for Fifa 14 would suggest that there's a massive amount of disdain for the series from its own fans, but in reality, everybody really wants Fifa to be as good as it can be; the abusive messages are actually a sign of warped passion. That's just one example of things only the Fifa fanbase understands though... How about another twenty? The entries in this article are all problems or elements of the Fifa series which only the devotees will fully understand. Hopefully something on this list will make you nod your head in agreement... If you can think of any other things that only Fifa players will understand, feel free to add them in the comments below.

20. Planning Out Your Career/Ultimate Team Before The Game Is Released

Eventually, we get bored of the most recent Fifa title; sooner or later, we end up looking ahead to the next one. One major thing to look forward to (especially in Ultimate Team terms) is the new team rosters, with every player where they should be. Even better, players will have been upgraded to an Overall that more befits their real-life performance; making some players perform far better than they did the previous year. Of course, planning out a team takes time, so during the Fifa off-season (basically August to September), some of us might plan out our new signings for when we get the next game. If you're a Career Mode fanatic, you might be eyeing youngsters who have the potential to make a difference in your chosen team. At the very least, you can use all this experience to boost your reputation as a professional scout.

I have an addiction to achievements, a craving for new bands and a dream to become Captain America. I once finished second in a Mario Kart 7 tournament so I'm kind of a big deal.
