5 Reasons Heavy Rain Is Actually Just Utter Rubbish

4. Ethan's Blackouts

Heavy Rain So the protagonist of this whole story is one Ethan Mars, a man who has been destroyed by the death of one of his son's. He is wrought with guilt, most likely because it is totally kind of his fault (I'm sorry, but it is). So when his other son gets kidnapped by the elusive Origami Killer, Ethan freaks his s**t, intent on getting his son back. But that's not all. Ethan also has strange blackouts where he wakes up standing in a street next to a warehouse with an origami figure in his hand. Does that mean Ethan is the Origami Killer? Well, let me save you some time, by saying no. It's pretty obvious that Ethan is not the Origami Killer from a very early stage, even if its because it would be too on-the-nose. The trouble is that Ethan's blackouts are NEVER explained. Like never. There's not even a flimsy reference to them in the late game. They are totally disregarded. Well there is a reason for that, and it's even more stupid than the glaring plot-hole. It turns out that originally Ethan's blackouts were playable sections of the game, where he hallucinated that his house was filled with drowning children. Ethan's ex-wife even mentions these in the finished game. The reason for the blackouts? Well through a flashback, it is revealed that Scott Shelby was present at the scene of Jason's death, thus presenting Ethan and Shaun as possible targets. Yeah, fair enough. So, Ethan sees dead kids everywhere and turns up with some origami because him and Scott are PSYCHICALLY LINKED. Luckily this supernatural conceit was taken out. But PSYCHICALLY LINKED...Goddamit. What are...But...Wha-...I'll just leave that one there.
