5 Reasons Marvel's 'Superior Spider-Man' Would Make A Great Video Game

Following a string of terrible Spidey games, could the latest controversial run provide the necessary spark to create a lasting impression?

With April's release of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' in cinemas, a video game tie-in to the franchise's latest instalment was hardly unexpected, and of course the fact that this latest in a long line of ambitious-yet-flawed Spider-Man video games was somewhat of a disappointment was perhaps just as predictable. It's sad but true; everybody's favourite wall-crawler has just never had a particularly fulfilling video game. So far the most well-received was 2004's movie attachment, 'Spider-Man 2', but even that failed to capture the hearts of fans for much more than allowing them to web sling their way around a portion of Spidey's New York. Spider-Man's abilities should lend themselves so well to open-world game environment, so what's stopping developers from realising this potential? The chosen source material is a big factor in this, and it's one that has been holding Spider-Man back for years. Movie tie-ins invariably just become interactive promotional tools, and very few comic story arcs are long or involved enough to support a full video game. That was until 2013 saw the birth of Marvel's 'Superior Spider-Man' for a 31 (plus more tie-ins) issue story in which Otto Octavius took over Peter Parker's body to become the iconic hero. Ending in April 2014, this series polarised opinion amongst Spidey's fans and has truly been one of the most talked about comic change-ups in recent years. With the dust now settled and everybody's favourite wall-crawler back to normal, fans have started to talk and speculate over the potential success of this story as a movie or television series. What is yet to be explored though, is the potential this story has to become the first truly great Spider-Man video game. So, without further introduction, here are five reasons why Marvel's 'Superior Spider-Man' would make a great video game.
