5 Reasons Marvel's 'Superior Spider-Man' Would Make A Great Video Game

5. A Meaningful Morality System

Anyone familiar with the history of Spider-Man and Doc Ock will surely understand that the two are polar opposites when it comes to their moral compasses. It goes without saying then, that Otto's 'Superior Spider-Man' had a rather different take on justice to that of Peter Parker's more understanding and forgiving persona. In the comic series, Otto's methods for dealing with criminals as Spider-Man was far harsher than Peter Parker's had ever been. While Peter employed a "no-one dies" ideology, Octavius limited himself in no such way, and during his short tenure as Spider-Man put a few of Peter's repeat offenders in the hospital. He even put the villain 'Massacre' in the grave after turning the madman's own gun on him and pulling the trigger. While 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' introduced a "Hero or Menace" system to represent Spidey's effect on the city, this was unimpressively employed and had no great impact on the player's efforts. Failing to stop petty criminals or save stranded citizens simply led to scathing reports from JJJ's Daily Bugle and a few Oscorp guards halting the web-slingers progress at points in the city. Putting players in the shoes of Otto's Superior Spider-Man would grant players the opportunity to face some genuine moral dilemmas when dealing with dangerous criminals as they weigh up Otto's ultimate solutions against Peter's own forgiving instincts. Ultimately you'd like to think players would opt to be true to the characters heroic origins, but it would be intriguing to explore a genuinely darker and more menacing Spider-Man in a game.
