6 Things About the Pokemon Games That Defy Logic

5. ...and the Pokemon Want Your Money, Too

Not a lot of people realized it until further installments in the franchise, but whenever you lose a battle (whether to a trainer or wild Pokemon), you lose money. The newest games describe you losing it "in a panic" when you come face to face with a wild Pokemon, but since we're not given that explanation in older games, we can only assume that Paul Newman's character from The Sting is actually every single Pokemon you run into in disguise. Seriously, what are these Pokemon going to do with your cash? The Pokemon world is already wary of the more sentient Pokemon, like Mewtwo, who killed a bunch of scientists and tried to take over the world on a slow Thursday. So it's not like they can just take the cash, waltz into a store and buy Soda Pop out of a vending machine with it. Do the Pokemon even take the cash? They're naturally curious fellas, so it isn't unlikely that when you drop your money, they'll take it for food or a litter box. Whatever the case may be, I like to think that there's a secret underground society of Pokemon who gamble and bet on which Electrode will blow up first during episodes of Criminal Minds.

Cameron Carpenter is an aspiring screenwriter, current film and journalism student, and self-diagnosed cinephile, which only sounds bad in certain circles. Devoted fan of comics, movies, theater, Jesus Christ, Sidney Lumet, and Peter O'Toole, he sometimes spends too much time on his Scribd and comicbookmovie.com, but doesn't think you're one to judge, devoted reader. You can follow him on Twitter to watch him talk to people you didn't know exist. Oh, and Daredevil is quite the big deal around here (my head).
