7 Best WWE Video Games For Recreating The Royal Rumble

1. WWF SmackDown! 2: Know Your Role

Looking back, we were spoilt with the early games WWF and THQ brought out. A section of WWE gamers still look back on WWE's second SmackDown! title as the best we've ever seen, and it certainly could be argued that the game's Royal Rumble is the greatest of all time. We all know the utterly brilliant gameplay the early SmackDowns had and this was coupled with a couple of nuances that haven't been seen in WWE's games since. The fantasy element was running rife in Know Your Role as you could eliminate your opponent by throwing them over the top rope with a running powerbomb, belly to belly, back body drop or body press slam. Moves you rarely see without a catcher already on the outside of the ring to break the falling stars' fall. An honourable mention must go to SmackDown! Shut Your Mouth here as you could eliminate opponents via a German suplex in that game. We all did that with Chris Benoit in one of their Rumble matches, right? (In reality, SYM can feel hard done by being left out of this countdown.) However, KYR added these flamboyant eliminations to all the greatness of SmackDown! 1, making it pound-for-pound the greatest Royal Rumble game WWE ever released. The only real issue with the game's Rumble was the seemingly lifelong pause every time someone was due to enter the ring. There's two ways to look at this minor error. You could claim that it is an annoyance that hampers the fluidity of the game while all the positive people out there would take the 'suspense builder' angle.
