Although it sounds pretty crazy to say aloud, Red Dead Redemption 2 is dropping in just shy of four weeks. It'll be with us on October 26th, and though Rockstar have mostly played their cards very close to their chest, hype and excitement around release is starting to gather steam.

Set in 1899, it's actually a prequel to the original (despite the numbered sequel treatment), and we'll be playing as newcomer Arthur Morgan, alongside reprising the role of a younger John Marston. The latter is somewhat controversial given his death in the original Red Dead was one of the most seismic narrative events in gaming history, but you have to assume Rockstar have something extra-special as a payoff this time around.

Regardless, as you can tell from any of the many screenshots doing the rounds, Red Dead Redemption 2 is quite the looker. Rockstar have clearly bided their time since 2013's GTA V, creating one of the most realistic interactive depictions of the Old West anyone has ever seen.

Now that we're drowning in hands-on previews and gameplay trailers, it looks like RDR 2 is doing everything right - including upping GTA V at every turn.
