9 Reasons Red Dead Redemption 2 Is Already Better Than GTA 5
9. An Actual Melee Combat System
Easily the biggest and most easily identifiable gameplay problem with GTA over the years has been melee-based. GTA 4 sought to change things up with dedicated blocks and dodge-counters, but it never felt especially reliable.
Thankfully, Red Dead 2's earliest gameplay footage showcased a more in-depth system, utilising shoulder-charge tackles, ground pounds, an interrogation mechanic and even executions. The latter were in the first Red Dead if you prodded fire when up-close to an enemy, but here it looks like you can leave you mark on the West in brutal fashion.
It's also worth noting that this melee system looks to be lifted and adapted from 2005's The Warriors: Rockstar's film adaptation that had a brilliant system of punches, kicks, throws and environmental destruction.
An open world Rockstar game with fun melee combat? It's about time.
