We like to say that the journey of a game is more important than the ending but let’s be honest, the ending is pretty darn important.

Especially if the game or series preceding it has been building toward a final giant moment or it was especially long so you’ve been hyped up for the epic conclusion. While those endings might end up being good, bad, or everything in between, at least you got to experience them. In this list we’re tucking into the endings you didn’t get to see. Whether because the series was cut short, the ending in question was swapped out, or promises didn’t eventuate into a final released product.

Or a giant publisher had a messy break up with their iconic video game designer that then blew up the final major entry in a hugely popular stealth series.

9. Life Is Strange - The Hospital Ending

If you’ve played Life Is Strange then you know the teenage tale slash supernatural saga leaves a number of things in your hands when it comes to how you want things to play out.

This is true in many moments throughout the game but none more so than its epic conclusion when a wild storm has descended on your town Arcadia Bay threatening everyone within it. Turns out that when protagonist Max decided to save her best friend Chloe at the start of the game and repeatedly throughout it, she accidentally messed with the natural order of events and unleashed a supernatural devastating weather event. In the end you have two choices, save your bestie Chloe and doom Arcadia Bay, or save Arcadia Bay and let Chloe die. And so the meme ‘bae vs. bay’ was born.

While there’s rampant debate over which ending is better, there was originally a tweak to the ending where you choose to sacrifice Chloe.

Titled “Hospital - Ending” in the game files, DONTNOD considered having Chloe fall into a coma if you choose to sacrifice her instead of straight up dying, giving players some hope that perhaps all wasn’t lost for their blue-haired fav. That ending didn’t make the final cut, though, so people like me who chose to save Arcadia Bay over our girl just have to live with that funeral scene. Bummer.
