After EA delivered an opening E3 conference that left many either underwhelmed or flat-out irritated, Bethesda didn't exactly have a high bar to clear in terms of "beating" them.

Still, Bethesda themselves turned in a relatively mixed bag of a show this year, doubling down on trivialities while keeping the big announcements fairly few and far between.

That said, there were at least two crowd-pleasing reveals, not to mention a ton of smaller content unveilings, and some fascinating nods towards the potential future of the industry.

Yes, it may all pale in comparison to last year's conference, which had the natural momentum of promoting Fallout 4 like the company's life depended on it, but the next 12 months should still serve up some exciting ventures from the company.

Starting with the negatives, here are 6 ups and 4 downs from Bethesda's E3 2016 conference...

Before we rejoice at the fact that a new Quake game is on the horizon, let's have a quiet moment of pause for the unfortunate console gamers who won't be able to play it.

That's right, Quake Champions was announced as a PC exclusive, a surprise considering how few FPS games aren't released on consoles these days.

In addition, many fans have understandably suspected that the game may end up free-to-play due to it being multiplayer-only and centered around eSports. There's no confirmation on that yet, but with the game due for release next year, we probably won't have to wait too long to get the details.
