Sekiro shadows die twice

2019 in gaming might close out with the advent of new consoles or streaming services changing the very way we interact with the industry, but this opening salvo? It's damn-near historic.

Saying nothing of Devil May Cry 5 and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice dropping in the same month, helping continue the renaissance of Japanese games highlighted by Persona 5, Yakuza 6 and Monster Hunter World beforehand, but Capcom too, have returned better than ever.

Joining DMC 5 is the immaculate Resident Evil 2, a reimagined version of the 1998 original with some of the best graphics in the business, alongside a rewarding progression that encourages you to explore every last nook and cranny. It's testament to just how immaculately this came together, that there's a lot of conversation around resurrecting various other polygonal gems under the guise of giving them "the Resident Evil 2 treatment".

Going forward into Q2 we've got Mortal Kombat 11, Days Gone, Rage 2 and Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled to look forward to. For now though, which of 2019's games have wowed you the most, and which should you stay away from?
