For Honor Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs
Don't buy it for the single player.
After being announced during E3 2015 to a mostly positive reception, Ubisoft have played their cards very close to their chest with For Honor. It wasn't until the game's open beta in February that consumers actually got a real sense of what the game 'is', and from there, it's been polarising, to say the least.
An incredibly unique take on melee combat and large scale multiplayer battles, combat centres around a small, three-segment icon that dictates which direction you'll attack or defend. Match the same as your opponent and you'll deflect, or aim somewhere else and your hit goes through. From there, we've got a TON of additional stats, meters, optional attacks and animations to factor in, resulting in something that does have 'pick up and play' appeal, but also offers up satisfying depth for those willing to get stuck in.
Does it all work though? For the most part, yes, though at time of writing there are still a number of issues relating to the online that could do with being patched, alongside a single player 'campaign' that functions more as an in-depth tutorial.
Here's what you need to know about For Honor, for better and for worse.
