A hot topic at the moment is Rockstar’s upcoming Grand Theft Auto V, and it currently takes the cake as my most anticipated thing ever. All fans talk about is what they want in GTAV, but what don’t we want?
I mean, surely something might go wrong and a few little things about the game will annoy us. It’s happened before in GTA’s past, where one or two features has driven a small amount of players away from the game. Things like GTA4′s driving and Chinatown Wars’ top down view come to mind. Here’s a list of things Rockstar needs to avoid to make GTAV better than it will be.
There are several things included in GTA4 that got grindy or even frustrating after several hours of play, so here’s a list of things that Rockstar needs to avoid. Despite some of GTA4′s shortcomings, it’s still officially, as determined by Metacritic, the best game of all time. There is a reason it’s score on console is 98! A whopping 98. When it came out, it was revolutionary with new open world gameplay, unreal graphics and a great story. Even though it was so great, even great games have their issues. And hopefully GTAV will fix them.
5. Multiple Protagonists
There has been a lot of rumours circling around about this, and Rockstar is still hesitant to show any evidence in screens as to who we play as. Some say it feeds this evidence, others say it’s just them being vague. Either way, this is one rumour that I hope never comes true. GTA stories past have always been about the characters, and mainly the one we play as. If Rockstar puts in more than one playable character, then each will need to have a deep story and have enough play time. But that raises another issue. What if I am forced to play with the protagonist that I hate for long periods of time. That would mean that I am enjoying parts of the game more than others, and may even give up on playing it part way through.
I really don’t know how this could work, if Rockstar did do it. I’m sure they could pull it off, they are among the most talented in the industry. If it IS going in, I hope that we could pick once per playthrough and not have the game pick for us, kind of like the DLC for GTA4. And this leads very nicely into my next point.

Definitely don’t want to start a mission over when killed, rather have in-mission checkpoints.
At least the option is there for you to do either. I don’t see a problem with the system if you can avoid it. If you had to use the checkpoints, no way would anyone enjoy that.
I agree with most of your points but NFS: shift driving really? the game physics are appalling it’s like your driving on ice constantly Forza 4 physics or a actual racing simulator would be decent with CryEngine 3 soft body damage (youtube it) but the game is allegedly finished but whatever they do as long as it doesn’t have GTA:SA or SR driving I’ll buy it.
I think Forza driving is too heavy for me, and it certainly wouldn’t fit GTA in my opinion. However, I do hate SR3 driving. Too precise, and it gives no room for skill.
they should leave stacks of money and bring back it saying busted when u get caught by the cops and wasted when u get killed.
They haven’t don’t multiple protagonists since Grand Theft Auto. They definitely need to change the driving engine back to the way it was in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. They need to bring back the smart aim and keep the cover-system. I hate the calls from friends when I tryna do something. When I wanna hang, I’ll let you know. So unless you’re gonna reinforce me, leave me alone! I got this game on PS3 so I didn’t get the PC Port. Here’s another thing I hated: story choices! It was obvious Niko’d spare Ivan, kill Trey, kill Francis, spare Cherise, kill Darko, and kill Dimitri the first chance he’d get!
I don’t really hate this article. To be honest, I really don’t care about it. But I do have issue with your #5, on multiple protagonists, because to me it just sounds weird.
Quote from you: “What if I am forced to play with the protagonist that I hate for long periods of time. That would mean that I am enjoying parts of the game more than others, and may even give up on playing it part way through.”
So, what if the game only has 1 protagonist like it normally does and you hate him? Would you just not play the game then because you hate the one and only character in the game? I doubt it, because I’m sure there was a protagonists that you’ve hated in the GTA series before. I know I have, but I still kept playing it and enjoyed it. If GTA V had multiple protagonists, wouldn’t it just give you more incentive to keep playing the game, seeing as you know sooner or later you’re going to be someone different?
Good point, and I did think of the point about hating the protagonist. I did hate EFLC’s protagonists so much, but I guess having a least favourite makes some parts of the game drag more. I do think having a protagonist like Johnny for the whole game would suck and ruin the experience, but for the short DLC’s I can live with it. For the article, I was talking more about inconsistency. You raise a good point, though.
I did say that the San Andreas customisation is good, I said a Saints Row level would suck.
and one thing we dont want it to be as crappy as gta 4 i mean gta 4 has alot of glitches and bugs and errors and the multiplayer has lags ehhhhhh!!!!!
HATED the driving in gta4. it’s been collecting dust on a shelf since the only missions available to me were driving missions. probably not even a a quarter of the way through the game. which was a huge disappointment since i preordered it. every vehicle was so heavy, slow reaction and terrible steering.
HATED the cops. It took forever to lose the cops and lower your wanted level. I got in trouble for stuff even when there weren’t any witnesses around.
I also hated nikko and his dumb cousin/gfs. It was harder to feel connected to the game. I’d prefer if it were more like SA and VC spliced together.
The faults in the game actually pushed me more in the direction of SR even if it was more cartoonish. But the crap in SR3 has me anxiously waiting for gta5. I just won’t preorder it this time around.
gta4 was a great game but what i wish to see in gta 5 is a map similar to gta san andreas, not all the game in a city..that’s boring.Right??
I liked this article, but I always hate seeing complaints about GTA IV’s by people don’t know how to play the game. I liked the friend system in GTA IV, I felt it added extra depth to the story and immersion.
…The sleep mode in GTAIV DOES WORK. And it works like this:
Turn phone to sleep mode, and no one will call you. NO ONE. No one for missions, no one for bowling. As long as sleep mode is on, no one calls you, and as long as no one calls you, you can never reject them and thus their opinion of you will never drop.
If you do something, like a mission, mini game, see a show or get killed/busted, your phone will back to normal, needing to be set to sleep mode again. You can tell if your phone is on sleep mode by the small icon that will appear by your mini map.
Friends wont call you if:
a. Your phone is on sleep mode
b. You have a wanted level
c. You are in a minigame, like vigilante
d. you are watching TV/surfing the internet
e. if you are in a mission (there are some scripted moments where they will call you to hang out, and Niko automatically refuses, however this does not affect your friendship level.
There ARE perks to hanging out with most friends, Michelle and Kate are the only two that don’t give you benefits. Your friends give you more insight and development to the story and characters.
Roman: gave you fast-travel
Brucie: gave you helicopter fast-travel (probably the most worthless)
Packie: Car bombs (which are only useless to the uncreative)
Dwayne: Bodyguards… who come and help you in battle. JUST LIKE FAR CRY 2.
Little Jacob: Discounted guns
Carmen: Health Boost
Kiki: Decreases wanted level
Alex: Clothing Discount
And the friends stuff IS OPTIONAL: Forget to put sleep mode on and they want to hang out? All you need to do decline!
I do agree, and about the performance of graphics need for automatically low performance for some PC. but still have a good look.
I agree and disagree as everyone would. I feel like Being able to customize your character would be a good thing. They should give you an option, honestly you right, you should play the character thats made for the game, but at the same time, The game is for the players needs too. Id love to have customizing for my character to fit my likes of who i think he is or will be. I didnt like niko, he annoyed me and thats me. Its going to be an amazing game either way. The driving physics i agree should be like the cryengine 3 video if not something along the lines of forza. The cops in gta iv were difficult to lose and always around the corner, more realism like stuffing bodies in the trunk would be nice haha, i dont like the weapon system, i liked saints rows weapon system along with max payne 3, but thTs taking different games. It shouod be like far cry 3, have multiple ways to finish the mission. Explore lots of unique and mysterious islands. But thTs what id like to see. Hope it Has everything we all want
I liked the GTA SA driving. It was easy fun and you could do more with it it reacted to your touch. All other games have sorry ass driving except for strictly racing games.
