NBA 2K16: 10 Ways Spike Lee Ruined MyCareer Mode

'Be The Story'? Not exactly...

When Spike Lee was announced as the creative mind behind 2K16's MyCareer mode, there was a considerable amount of fanfare. There was talk of a fully fleshed-out storyline, without compromising the interactivity that has traditionally made the mode one of the best in sports gaming. The franchise seemed to be on the cusp of a big leap, one which could have revolutionised the entire genre. Who better to have at the helm than Mr. Lee, a directer highly regarded for his gritty portrayals of urban life? In 1998, he wrote, produced and directed He Got Game, the tale of a young NBA prospect (played by Ray Allen, no less) and his troubled relationship with an imprisoned father. MyCareer mode promised to be an emotionally complex, rich, character-driven take on the MyCareer model; if done right, it could have gone down in history as one of the most innovative features of any sports game ever. Instead, it must be considered an immense disappointment. There's so much fundamentally wrong with 2K16's MyCareer mode, it's hard to know where to begin. A lot of pre-release chatter centred around Spike "changing the game". In fairness, he certainly did so - but not for the better.
