Nintendo Switch: 10 Essential Wii U Ports That Need To Happen

The world missed out on so many great games...

It's no secret that the Wii U was a commercial failure, selling considerably fewer consoles than the Wii, and causing Nintendo to jump ship to the Nintendo Switch earlier than most anticipated.

But just because the console sold poorly, doesn't mean that it's short on fantastic games. In fact, some of the best Nintendo games ever released were made for the Wii U, making it even more of a shame that such comparatively few people got to experience them.

That's where the Switch comes in.

It's essentially been confirmed that certain titles like Mario Kart 8 and Splatoon are coming to the Switch in an improved form, making it all the more likely that Nintendo will be port other brilliant Wii U games to the system in the near future.

With added content and the chance to iron out niggling flaws and inconsistencies, here are ten Wii U ports that need to happen (and how they could be improved).

10. Mario Kart 8

The Game: Mario Kart 8. A port of the title has all but been confirmed by Nintendo, showing up in the Switch's reveal trailer with a few subtle differences. Despite no official word that Mario Kart 8 is coming, it's pretty much a given, and its development has been confirmed by multiple reliable leakers.

The Improvement: For my money, Mario Kart 8 is the best Mario Kart game ever made. The graphics are absolutely fantastic, there's no denying it's the best-looking entry in the series, with a great array of characters and courses (factoring in the DLC introduces four new cups and other characters like Link and Villager).

The only thing that needs substantial improvement is the battle system, which is disappointingly lacklustre compared to previous entries. Give us back the standard battle mode, with simple yet conflict-encouraging arenas, rather than just slapping balloons on karts in standard courses.

Chuck in a few new cups on top (more Nintendo-related tracks like Big Blue would be amazing) and some more characters (again, why not explore other franchises - where is Fox? Captain Falcon?) and it'd be an absolute must-buy.
