Gotta catch these ten.

Since its introduction over twenty years ago, Pokémon has been one of the most beloved gaming series of all time. There is something unique in the way the player goes through different regions across each instalment, each introducing hundreds of new monsters to catch and battle with.

Now, with the re-release of Pokémon Gold & Silver, an entire new generation of fans can match up with one of the best instalments in the franchise.

Indeed, it is a common conception that the quality of Pokémon has declined over the years since Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle first introduced us into the series. However, every generation has seen fantastic new Pokémon introduced, and Gen 2 is no different, boasting some of the strongest Pokémon of all; Pokémon that no trainer's collection would be complete without.

With Nintendo granting wishes to trainers everywhere by releasing such beloved Pokémon games in all their original glory, players will once again be travelling through the Johto region, battling gym leaders and taking on the prestigious Elite Four challenge.

This begs the question: Which are the best Pokémon introduced in Gen 2 that you need to become League Champion?

10. Kingdra

Kingdra boasts a key defensive weapon that no previous Dragon has: The secondary Water typing meant Kingdra had no weakness to Ice. At this time, since there was no Fairy weakness yet, this halved its weaknesses to just one. Any Pokémon with just one type weakness is worthy of recognition.

Not only did Kingdra drop the Ice weakness, it could also learn Ice TM moves such as Blizzard and Icy Wind. This, along with the Dragon vs Dragon weakness, doubled it's threat against the likes of Clair and Lance later in the game.

Every single trainer needs a Water type in their party as Surfing is an integral part of the game. But as the game draws to its conclusion, there can be no place for weak Pokémon, Kingdra being the perfect balance of a tough fighter and a strong Surfer.
