11. Sean's Death

Sean Maguire is the first of Dutch's gang to bite the bullet - at least on screen - and it's a moment that seems to erupt out of nothing.

Arthur gets called into town to meet Bill, a few weeks after Hosea, Dutch and the rest of the gang had been playing Lemoyne's two rival factions against each other (the Grays and the Braithwaites), but it soon becomes apparent that things aren't right. Bill leads them straight into an ambush just as Arthur begins to realise what's happening, and the first to go is everyone's favourite Irish Republican, Sean.

Sean is a relative newcomer to Dutch's gang, but one loyal to the cause and eager to make a first impression. As one of the gang's younger members, seeing Maguire die would've been nasty in and of itself, but it's how spontaneous the murder is that takes us all off-guard. He's mouthing off one second, and then he's lying in a heap in Rhodes the next.

Not pleasant at all.
