“Hooray! The new Resident Evil game is released today, and it looks awesome!”
That was me, seven years ago. Seven years later, it’s a different picture, painted almost entirely by apathy.
When Resident Evil 4 dropped onto unsuspecting player, it was special. So special in fact that Capcom seemed to have successfully, and unexpectedly, saved their original survival horror series from total player disinterest by being so completely different. However, the problem with their new focus on action and lighter emphasis on puzzle solving and exploration was that it seemed to, for me at least, grow stale with alarming haste.
Now, two main-canon titles later (not including the peripheral titles that have been released under the Resident Evil ‘Umbrella’, like operation Raccoon city for example), the whole thing begins again; Resident Evil 6 splits fans asunder, with some defending it and some insisting that it’s truly the beginning of the end.
Where do you sit on the issue? I’m certainly not ambivalent. While I’m not one to believe that the series was necessarily ruined by its renewed focus on action, I am amongst those who believe that Resident Evil 6 spells the death of the franchise. Not the financial death, you understand. I’m certain RE 6 will still sell well, I’m certain we’ll see more crappy RE movies and peripheral titles and I’m fairly certin Capcom will manage to squat and squeeze out a seventh. No, not its financial death, but its spiritual death.
Resident Evil 6 shows up at a time when I honestly couldn’t want it less. Like many of you who’ll be sitting down to this piece, I’m almost completely unmoved by its release. Here are ten reasons why.

I agree completely. I’m sure that you can innovate to stay relevant in this new age, but to turn RE into a FPS is completely ridiculous… I played the demo and immediately took my reservation off of the special edition i had reserved. Survival horror is a niche of it’s own that Capcom had cornered and to try to compete with MW or BF is stupid. I know money needs to be made, but if you stick to your guns and offer something that no one else has to offer in a creative way you might not explode out the gate, but us gamers will tell a friend who will tell a friend and in the long haul you will make more …. I’m Livid with what this has become.. If you want to make a FPS don’t market it under the flag of RE it’s insulting to the brand that was established through great games like RE1 – Code veronica … Hell even RE4 wasn’t bad

What instantly killed my interest in RE6 was when i found out zombies could shoot guns -__- cancelled my preorder that day.
Agree with a lot of the points here; I was initially looking forward to it and even wrote an article about it but now I’ve had time to assess the demo I’ve come to realise that isn’t very good at all. Leon’s part is great (as I suspected) but the other two parts are poor.
What happen few years later after RE4 when Mikami left CAPCOM? RE5 came out & what was the reaction back then? angry ppl everywhere for the forced co op & the removal of some must elements on any RE like survival, scares, atmosphere, puzzle solving etc
And when u expect CAPCOM to fix all those issues on the next game that’s what they decide to do.. imo RE die when Mikami left the same way SH die when Team Silent disband the same way FF die when Sagakuchi left etc w/o the mastermind/s behind a franchise u can expect anything & everything to go wrong.
I dont have anything to expect/looking forward to on some future RE game anymore the only thing I’m looking forward now for one of my 2 favorite genre is the new Mikami creation (Zwei) I cant w8 to see what this genius prepare for us survival horror fans :)
RE is no more, CAPCOM prefer to appeal to CoD & GoW fans than the old hardcore fans of the franchise who help make the franchise what it is today, yep that’s right they dont give a fck about us so I dont give a fck about their games either.
You guys said it all… I just wanted to add.. that I am DISGUSTED. This series was too good for them to do this to it. PLEASE GO BACK TO YOUR ROOTS CAPCOM. RESIDENT EVIL IS NOT MEANT TO BE AN ACTION GAME!!! If you want to make an action game, MAKE ONE, JUST DON’T CALL IT RESIDENT EVIL!!!! When you are R E A D Y to make a SURVIVAL HORROR game, CALL IT RESIDENT EVIL 7, and us LONGTIME FANS WHO SUPPORTED YOU JUST MIGHT BUY IT. I am telling all my friends not to even TOUCH resident evil 6. So many people buy game based on just the NAME… but this is wrong capcom, you should have known better than this and you SHOULD have respected your fans, especially after resident evil 5. LISTEN to your fans, instead of ignoring them. You will have even more success then…. and as far as it looks… you’re going downhill capcom… not up. Start listening if you want to stay in business. The sales wont last.
I completely agree Jeff! These so called fans are spoiled and don’t want to grow. Sure it’s not what we expected but overall it’s a good game!

If this game stayed the way like the 90s gameplay, than fans will complain about that and wanted a change
It’s not a perfect game but what game is. Capcom is moving forward with the game not stalling so quit all the bitching and enjoy the game for what it’s worth. All you haters should go play pacmam and leave the rest of us that no longer live in the 90s enjoy the great but not “perfect” game that is resident evil 6.

R.I.P. Resident Evil, it was fun till the 6th…I agree with most of you here, it feels like i’m playing with GOW or MW…Going back to mercenaries reunion. It has clever Zombies and not shooting Soldiers. Capcom release your FPS under some another title, and who is interested will buy it, but don’t think you can fool us again. Sure not buying the next Resident Evil after this and operation rc! Bringing my game disks to local store and change it for some other game…

That the gameplay hasn’t changed and is stale all of y’all want
A RE game like the first 3 why??? It wouldn’t even make since
For them to do that it be like them coming out with GTA V
And it’s gameplay is like GTA 3 everyone would highly complain

I don’t get why so many people hate the game. I think it’s really good.
A lot of people bitching about it because they don’t get what they want and start whining like a little bitch. Then you call yourselves adult when you can’t even handle the “reality” of changes of this game. Stop dreaming about the older RE’s games because that is history. If you hate this game, fine hate it, but dont add things like “i am a RE fan since the REx, and i hate RE 4,5,6 because blah blah blah.” you’re just like a gamer girl and telling everybody that you are a girl and want to receive “attention”.
I agree with the author. I like RE5 a lot more.
