One of the many joys of the first Shenmue was simply exploring Dobuita and the surrounding areas and getting a real feel for the town. With the second game everything was made much bigger and it was so easy to get lost in Hong Kong, which could often make progress through the game a little slower for those who got truly overwhelmed.

While the second game featured a map system of sorts, it wasn't particularly well executed and is now massively outdated when compared to practically every open world title of the current era.

It's a little thing, but it is often the little things that matter. Modern gamers expert to be able to mark points on a map and be guided to their destination, rather than having to find their way around for themselves. There's no reason that Shenmue 3 shouldn't incorporate this to accommodate them. After all, those who don't want to use it simply don't have to.
