Spider-Man PS4: 9 Superhero Franchises Sony Must Tackle Next

If the MCU won't give us a Black Widow film, Sony should do the game.

With the way paved by the likes of Arkham Asylum and its subsequent sequels, superhero games and licensed adaptations are no longer the stuff of nightmares and bargain bins.

Especially now that Marvel studios in particular has decided that phoned-in movie tie-ins aren't the best (or most financially viable) use of their greatest properties, the genre can do nothing but flourish. Now that everyone's favourite superheroes are finally being put in the hands of developers who have the time and the passion to create something really special, there's seemingly endless possibilities as to the kinds of licensed games we're going to get in the near-future.

And while Sony has already taken charge of the comic book revolution by announcing a new Spider-Man title from Ratchet and Clank veterans Insomniac, there's nothing stopping the publisher from recruiting their other top class partners and studios to spearhead the new dawn of superhero releases.

Because Sony is home to some of the greatest studios in the world, and so if I was in charge (which honestly, it's probably a good thing that I'm not), I'd put them straight to work on some of the top comic book franchises around.

Nobody knows what Sony's plan is going to be now that they've dipped their toes into the superhero world, but I hope it looks a little something like this...

9. Thor - Santa Monica Studios

What They've Done Before: God of War

Why They'd Be Perfect: Yeah, yeah, I know. Isn't giving a brutish, over-the-top god character to the team that made their livelihood making games about brutish, over-the-top gods a bit of an obvious move? You're not wrong, but there's so much more that Santa Monica Studios could achieve with Thor that wouldn't just repeat the familiar God of War formula.

Because while there'd no doubt be the giant spectacles and insane action that the studio specialises in, there's space within the comic book franchise for the developers to do things they've never attempted before.

Using the female comic book version of Thor and having a different protagonist would be an interesting start, while a more contemplative game about the relationship between superheroes and norse mythology could make for one of the more interesting video game tales out there.
