It’s been nearly a whole year since WWE 12 hit consoles and what a year it has been. It represented one of THQ’s greatest WWE video games in years and in one high-risk manoeuvre (an entirely new game engine in the form of the Predator technology) addressed any concerns long standing fans had for the future of the franchise.
Well now the dust has settled and in the wake of this resounding success all eyes turn on Yuke’s and THQ once again as they get ready to hopefully hit another finisher with WWE 13.
Last week WhatCulture was invited to take part in THQ’s summer showcase in which we were given a full presentation of their next sequel in action followed by some much anticipated hands-on play time. While the build we were able to play wasn’t fully completed at the time, we can tell you now that it was still a pretty special experience.
Some of the improvements Yuke’s have implemented into WWE 13 are just staggering; many of them are complete firsts for the series while nearly all of them build on not only the successes of WWE 12, but on the successes of the franchise as a whole.
WhatCulture! 3:16 says WWE 13 just whooped our ass. And here are 10 reasons it’ll whoop yours too.

Did they do anything to the controls or are they the same as WWE 12? It was mainly the reversal system that was I thought needed a bit of fine tuning?
They have made a change to the counter system actually; now when you try to hit the counter, the RT button prompt comes complete with ‘Too Late/ Too Early’ floating text, which I found really helped me judge it more accurately.
Hey there! can u tell me anything about the prematch settings which also include setting number of finishers..!
how does this setting no. of finishers work?? do we still have to earn that number of finishers using stamina meter or can we have our first move as a finisher??
you can set finishers in the character selection screen

Any word on different arenas? I hate that it’s the same dang arena with the same look, and the same amount of people with only the stage being different or if we’re lucky, an outside arena. But I’d love to be able to play in smaller arenas like the ECW early days, or regular sized arenas for RAW or entire stadiums for Wrestlemania. I remember back on Attitude for freakin’ 64 and PS1 they had semi-different arenas for house shows, RAW and PPVs. Also, is create a PPV mode back? And what about GM mode where it tells you how good the line up you made is based on audience approval? Seems like they get rid of everything I freakin’ love in these games!
This article embodies whats wrong with this series. 10 instance of jerking off to aesthetic/cosmetic upgrades while the game engine/gameplay itself is unplayable. Quite literally, so bad that its unplayable.
Excellent article. I have played all the Smackdown games, up until and including the “Vs Raw” series. I haven’t yet played the “WWE” series, (due to me not watching WWE programming anymore) but I am tempted to go back and play last years iteration. This article has made me excited now for WWE 13. The Attitude Era was magical. I have fond memories of it.
It’s Sad , there is no road to wrestlemania , it’s the most exited one is the game
I always get the new WWE/Smackdown Vs Raw game, but they never have the lasting appeal I hope for.
After thinking about why i think it comes down to a matter of the game mechanics and the countering system. I’ve always felt it was very simple and not much more than accurate button bashing. The old N64 wrestling games used a two button system differing between punches/kicks and grapples. I seem to remember one of the old smackdown games used this system. I would really like to see the game developers add this back in at some stage.
hi, is the rope break 5 count back? as it was stupid just having to break.as soon as they got to the ropes in wwe 12
Seriously? I am a collector of games, including the SD vs Raw series. When I popped in WWE 12 I was really annoyed by the reversal system used. Not that this system made the game more difficult, however it made it highly inaccurate. Example, Miz gets a huge beatdown by Undertaker, Miz is able to easily still kick out of a pin, then with one finisher win the match. I can say that there were many copies of WWE 12 left on the self in Greenwood, Nova Scotia compared to previous WWE games. Matter of fact, they remained there (besides the one I bought as my wife worked there). Simply put, you need to go back to the last SD vs Raw system. Why fix something that wasn’t broken, right? I can say if WWE 12 was a success, we didn’t see it in N.S, sorry.
I meant to add, friends of mine who are also collectors in N.S saw similar in other stores around N.S in regards to how many copies were left on the shelf. They too were disappointed about the reversal system. However, I’d rather keep to my own opinion. I’d just hate for people to get the wrong idea about WWE 12 being as huge of a success it was made out to be. Again, we never saw it here, but perhaps in other parts of the world.
Did they fix the 360 servers???????????????????????????
I think wwe 12 was one of the worst releases from a major studio for online integration. If you put it in now you still get server errors trying to connect to the xbl items. Ridiculous and completely unacceptable for a company that size.
