Del Toro is a HATER
Guillermo del Toro is teasing us again. Are you as anxious as I am to see what project this uber talented helmer will direct after HELLBOY II? Are you all with me when you hope it's something feels original, full of life and as fresh as PAN'S LABYRINTH last year? Here's another movie we can add to his potential directing list...
Joblo have the exclusive scoop that del Toro has struck a deal with his new HELLBOY studio Universal to adapt the David Moody novel HATER for the big screen...Society is rocked by a sudden increase in the number of violent assaults on individuals. Christened 'Haters' by the media, the attackers strike without warning. Their attacks are brutal, remorseless and extreme. There are no apparent links between the Haters or their victims and no obvious reason for their violence. In seconds rational, controlled people become vicious killers. Everyone - irrespective of race, gender, age, sexuality or any other imaginable difference - has the potential to become either a Hater or a victim. This is a terror which knows no boundaries. You can no longer trust anyone, no matter how well you think you know them. You can no longer trust yourself. By the end of today you could be a killer. By the end of today you could be dead. There's no official confirmation here but we have no reason to believe that Joblo would make this story up. It seems a perfectly reasonable bit of information. Del Toro is sure obsessed with attaching himself to as many projects as possible. At the moment, here is everything we have heard over the last 16 months that he might direct after HELLBOY II has wrapped... THE CHAMPIONS (setup at United Artists and based on the 60's British cop drama). AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS (based on H.P. Lovecraft's classic sci-fi tale, could be pre-strike if it finds studio backing). RUNOFF (based on the horror/thriller/comedy graphic novel, depicting a town you can never leave). TARZAN (HUGE franchise potential, with del Toro's take on a classic character. No word on this project for 12 months). HELLBOY 3 (seems like the outsider at this point. Plan would seem to be HELLBOY vs. FRANKENSTEIN and other such Universal monsters). 3993 (del Toro's spanish based ghost story which is the oldest of his discussed projects and actually pre-dates the opening of this site. Would seem likely to be the front runner). Which one's take your fancy? For me, it's between seeing his Spanish set Ghost story or the adaptation of AT THE MOUTAINS OF MADNESS. I'm kinda desperate to see what he will do with a John Carpenter-esque intense sci-fi thriller. As far as HATER goes. Join the queue! There's other stuff I wanna see filmed first.
