Guy Ritchie on SHERLOCK'S case

British Gangster director Guy Ritchie is changing sides of the law. Variety say he has been handpicked to direct the beginning of a new film franchise of Sherlock Holmes films for Warner Bros.

The new set of movies won't be directly based on the Arthur Conan Doyle classic writings but are instead adapted from an upcoming comic book by one of the films producers, Lionel Wigram (exec producer on Harry Potter and Order of the Phoenix). Anthony Peckham (Don't Say a Word) wrote the original script which is being adapted by Ritchie with WB wanting this to be a 2010 tentpole. Ritchie's appointment in the directing chair might should not be as suprising to many as I'm sure it is today. Back in March 2007, this was described by Warners Bros. as their intention for the character...
"Holmes losing some of his Victorian stuffiness and being more adventuresome, including playing up his skills as a bare-knuckle boxer and expert swordsman as he goes about solving crimes€.
As long as he keeps his brilliant mind for psychological deduction then I don't mind it if he gets a little rough now and again. Just make sure you keep the core elements of the character sacred. And cut just the general weirdness that went on in Revolver (you talk about M. Night having an ego, that movie was full of it!). We can see Ritchie's latest attempt at a comeback in September with Rock"N"Rolla.
