Jim Carrey teaming with director Jason Reitman for PIERRE PIERRE

Jason Reitman has so far worked from two fantastic scripts, one he wrote himself (Thank You For Smoking) and the other from the now Academy Award winning scribe Diablo Cody (Juno), and it looks as if that trend may continue for his next feature. Fox Atomic have attached Reitman to direct Pierre Pierre, an outrageous comedy which you may remember was ranked on the Screenwriters Black List, which celebrate the best unproduced screenplays of that year, a list that his last movie Juno also once occupied. The studio have paid $1 million to newcomers Edwin Cannistraci and Frederick Seton marking their first script sale in Hollywood. The film which seems a lot like it could belong in the Pink Panther series, will follow a self-indulgent French nihilist who transports a stolen painting from Paris to London. Seems a lot like a 90's Carrey film - but not neccesarily a Jason Reitman one. In fact, they might be missing out on something here because a "Man on the Moon Jim Carrey", might have worked pretty well with Reitman's mentality as a director. Variety say Pierre Pierre will be budgeted at a meager $13 million, so there is no way in hell this ain't gonna make money. It's likely to roll after the writers strike and it should be a huge hit. I do like Carrey but post-Bruce Almighty I didn't want to see him do this kind of film anymore. That was the end for that persona as far as I was concerned and as far as his career could go with that type of comedy. I thought he did some extremely fine work in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and as much as I hated The Number 23, I enjoyed seeing a different side to this talented actor. But with Yes Man and now this. I'm starting to believe I won't ever get to see a string of dramatic films from this actor that truly live up to the guy's talent.
