10 Best Metal EPs Of 2017 (So Far)

1. Sleep Token - Two

A seamless blend of pop, prog and metal, Sleep Token has the potential to be one of the greatest breakthrough bands of 2017.

With a style that perfectly balances out piano, clean guitar, intensely dirty riffing, diverse percussion and angelic vocals, this mysterious rock n' roll venture has shone brightly on two immense EP's over the course of the past twelve months.

While their sophomore disc Two is what earns them this slot on this list, their 2016 debut One is equally enigmatic and varied. Both releases are packed to the brim with brilliantly crafted compositions that see gorgeous pop (not your Rihanna-style stupidity, but pop that uses actual instruments) build and morph into brutal, polyrhythmic metal.

Basically, imagine John Legend and Meshuggah crashed together in a head-on collision and you would begin to get the Sleep Token style. However, this act's ability to master both of those styles and smash together in a manner that doesn't feel obtrusive or bi-polar is where the real brilliance lies.

With metal being as saturated as it is in the 21st century, who would have thought that turning partially to pop could be the solution to many rockers' qualms?
