10 Christmas Songs That Are Actually Good

9. Elton John - Step Into Christmas

After a particularly prosperous 1973 which saw the release of his sixth and seventh studio albums Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player (which reached No. 1 in America) and Goodbye Yellow Brick Road (which reached No. 1 in America and the UK respectively), Sir Elton decided to have a crack at the Christmas No. 1 too.

Imitating producer Phil Spector's trademark 'wall of sound' technique, this granny-mover actually feels like you've been hit by a Christmas tree. Tinsel and all. Sadly though, the track never reached higher than No. 24 in the charts, something many have attributed to the single's B-side "Ho, Ho, Ho (Who'd Be a Turkey at Christmas)" which, as I'm listening to it, is just bizarre.

I doubt John needed this up-beat Christmas jam to be his legacy as he soon became one of the best-selling recording artists of all time. Still not sure how one steps into a Christmas though.
