10 Criminally Underrated Beatles Tracks

5. The Inner Light

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7oSuzEqHOcE Released in March 1968 as the b-side to Lady Madonna, The Inner Light was George Harrison€™s first writing credit on a Beatles single. It was also a remarkable shift from anything heard before on a single by the band - fully embracing the Indian music and culture that the Beatles' lead guitarist was becoming immersed in. The backing track was recorded at the EMI India studio using local musicians while Harrison was in Bombay to record his India-infused soundtrack to the film Wonderwall. The lyrics are drawn from the Taoist text, Tao Te Ching and Harrison conjures up a sweet, innocent song reminiscent of psychedelic folk band The Incredible String Band. The Inner Light is Harrison€™s most successful foray into Indian-inspired music as a member of The Beatles and reveals the breadth and scope of The Beatles' musical power. What other band could have twinned the boogie woogie of Lady Madonna with such a delicate Indian beauty?
